Ayurvedic Treatment of Vasculitis
Ayurvedic treatment of vasculitis is very individual. There is no ‘vasculitis medicine’ in Ayurveda. The main goal is to balance the Dosha’s. To do this, we use a combination of Ayurvedic lifestyle interventions, dietary advice, yoga practice and Ayurvedic medication to holistically heal the vasculitis.
Diet and lifestyle in the treatment of vasculitis.
Dietary advice depends on your particular case.
If the vasculitis is predominantly due to a Kapha imbalance, you need to avoid pumpkin. If the Kapha is complicated by increasing inflammation or an ulcerative vasculitis, then you must avoid pork and all red meats.
If the vasculitis is aggravated by aVata imbalance -you will experience pain or indigestion, a slow metabolism and flatulence. If this is the case, you should avoid cauliflower, cabbage, capsicum, beans and mushrooms.
If your Pitta is out of balance, you will experience a burning pain with the vasculitis, you will also generally feel hot and feverish. You should avoid seafood, shrimp, lobster, eggs, oranges, mandarins, lemons and pineapple
We base allAyurvedic treatment on the physical examination of your symptoms and pulses. We keep in mind your body type and condition. However, there is some dietary advice that is helpful for everybody.
First, everybody should drink lots of water first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. This will help you flush out your kidneys, which helps with waste and toxin removal.
Second, a liquid or soupy diet is beneficial for all individuals suffering from vasculitis.
Yoga in the treatment of vasculitis.
We use a yoga practice to help you recover faster during the treatment of vasculitis.
The particular yoga postures I prescribe depend on your Dosha imbalance.
YATAN Yoga Therapy is a practice that was specifically developed to target the lymphatic system. It is well known to Ayurveda practitioners that particular yoga postures help to activate specific parts of the body. Therefore, we use yoga to help your body remove any blockages in your lymphatic system that may have led to aKapha accumulation.
We also use some breathing techniques, pranayama, which work on balancing the Pitta. A Pitta imbalance is the most distressing problem in vasculitis. To help balance the Pitta we specifically use sheetali pranayama and sitali pranayama.
