Stories of clients we have helped with the treatment of vasculitis.
Ashley, a 17-year-old female with an acute case of vasculitis.
Ashley was 17 years old when she came to the YATAN Ayurvedic Centre to seek help for her vasculitis.
She had a very acute case of vasculitis, mostly affecting the lower part of her body. She also had some signs of vasculitis in her eyes.
Her body, from her hips down, always had pimples that resembled vasculitis-like skin eruptions. The pimples appeared very angry, red and painful. Her vasculitis was complicated by the appearance of lymphedema from her knees down. This means that her legs appeared very swollen.
She visited a Western medical doctor who prescribed a treatment regimen of a corticosteroid (Prednisone), which is an immune suppressing medication, as well as compressions stockings for her to wear on her legs. The compression stockings are used to try to improve blood and lymph circulation. Theoretically, this should reduce the inflammation and swelling.
She was taking Prednisone for several months. The medical doctor advised her that once she begins to feel better, they can talk about reducing her daily dose of Prednisone.
She came to see me at YATAN Holistic Ayurvedic Centre because she was bothered by several aspects of her vasculitis.
First, she was distressed about the constant swelling in her legs. She had to sleep with raised legs to try to help the body use gravity to reduce the swelling.
Next, she did not like having to wear the compression stockings. They are especially uncomfortable to wear in the summer months; they are very dense, and the weather is very hot. This can lead to sweaty and itchy legs.
Finally, she was most distressed about the fact that she was only 17 years old, and yet she had a condition for which she would have to take a serious medication for the rest of her life.
I advised her on changes she needed to make in her lifestyle and diet in order for her vasculitis to improve. I also prescribed Ayurvedic medicine that targeted her specific underlying issues.
Her symptoms slowly started to improve. She was less distressed. After 2 months: she started to lose weight, the swelling decreased and the vasculitis diminished.
She only took medication for about 4 months before she became symptom free. She was very young with an acute case of vasculitis. This led to a treatment course that was quick and effective. I contacted her a year later; she was still happy, healthy and free of vasculitis symptoms.
I advised a longer duration of therapy to make sure the vasculitis does not return. However, Ashley was unable to continue treatment past the 4 months.
Mimi, a 63-year-old female with vasculitis.
Many years ago, I treated Mimi, a 63-year-old female for vasculitis.
She was diagnosed with vasculitis by a Western medical doctor. She was put on the typical immunosuppressant regimen.
She was taking the medication for 3 months before she developed a reaction to the immunosuppressants. This reaction led Mimi to develop other health issues along with the vasculitis.
She recognized that her body could not tolerate the immunosuppressant regimen, so she stopped taking the medication.
She developed red, painful and itchy skin eruptions all over her body. The eruptions were especially prominent in the middle part of her body and on her hands.
After examining her symptoms and pulses, I determined that she has a Pitta dominant vasculitis.
I prescribed a 6-month course of Ayurvedic treatment. This included lifestyle and diet changes, as well as Ayurvedic medicine.
Her general health and well-being improved greatly. Her vasculitis completely disappeared. Mimi was very happy with the results of her vasculitis treatment.
I checked up on her many years later. She reported that she is still very well and symptom free.
Michelle, a 33-year-old female with vasculitis.
I treated Michelle, a 33-year-old female engineer, for vasculitis.
She had a very severe case of vasculitis in the bottom part of her body. She had very inflamed, painful, burning and red skin eruptions.
A Western medical doctor diagnosed Michelle with vasculitis and advised her to take immunosuppressant medication. She took this medication for several months, but it did not help relieve her symptoms.
After a consultation, I advised her on dietary and lifestyle changes. I also prescribed Ayurvedic medication.
Unfortunately, Michelle was not compliant with the treatment regimen. She barely took the medication for 2 months. After that, she did not return.
I use this case with Michelle to make you understand that I know how to help guide you through the healing process. However, it is up to you to take your health into your hands and to act on the treatment that I prescribe for you. You will only get better if you put your effort into healing. I am not able to do this part for you.
